The competition invites teams of high-school students to propose a scientific experiment that they want to perform at a particle accelerator.
The Beamline for Schools competition offers high-school students the chance to conduct experiments at a real, functioning physics beamline at CERN. More about the competition. This undulator-fed beamline spans an energy range of 8-14 keV. It features multilayer monochromator optics at 0.6% bandpass for high flux, capable of delivering 10 12 ph/s into a 100 µm x 100 µm spot size. Microfocusing optics are available to give a beam size down to approximately 10 µm x 10 µm. FlexX currently houses a Eiger2 16M detector.
